World Environment Day is here, so what better time to think about some swaps you can make in your day-to-day routine to reduce your footprint?

What is World Environment Day?

World Environment Day occurs every year on 5th June to raise awareness on the environmental challenges the world is facing. Each year runs with a new theme to spotlight a particular issue which needs to be addressed.

What is the World Environment Day 2023 theme?

With more than 400 million tonnes of plastic produced in the world every year, the theme for World Environment Day this year focuses on solutions to plastic pollution the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. The aim is to show how we, as individuals, companies and countries as a whole, can use plastic more sustainably in an effort to end plastic pollution for good.

How can I celebrate World Environment Day?

If you’d like to get involved, there are a few ways you can make a difference. Firstly, you can educate yourself on the theme of the year, find out what the key issues are and how we need to change. You can choose to run an event which tackles the theme problem and register this with World Environment Day.

What can I do for World Environment Day and beyond?

Change your lifestyle habits

Reduce, reuse and recycle

Think about the products you’re using and consider whether they can be reused for something else. Get as creative as you can with upcycling your products or packaging. If it can’t be reused, can the product you’re using be recycled?

Conserve water usage

Water is a vital resource which takes a lot of energy to process to be usable. We should all be taking no more than 4 minute showers to help reduce our water consumption. Shaving your legs in the shower tends to double shower time, so try to turn off water when shaving other than when you need to rinse. Don’t forget to turn the water off while you’re brushing your teeth too.

Try clothes swaps with friends

Instead of going shopping for brand new clothes, why not organise a clothes swap with friends every now and then? This way you can all pick up some new pieces, without feeding the fast fashion industry.
