Can I take a razor in my hand luggage?

FFS razor plane

The short answer is yes. Cartridge razors, where the cartridge can be detached from the handle and covered with a plastic head, are usually fine to take in your hand luggage on a plane. Disposable razors are also okay to take in your hand luggage, as long as they are in their packaging. To make things a little easier, you could carry your razor in a clear plastic bag which allows you to conveniently show this to security if needed.

Unsurprisingly, straight razors (also known as safety razors) aren’t allowed within your hand luggage. Either leave your safety razor at home or pop it into your hold luggage instead.

The thought process here is fairly logical, never pack anything in your hand luggage where the blade is exposed. However, to be on the safe side, we always recommend checking with your airline provider and the airport before travelling, as rules can vary depending on who you are flying with and where you are flying from.

Can I take an electric razor in my hand luggage?

Yes, you are able to take your electric razor in your hand luggage but depending on the airport, you may need to remove this from your bag as you go through security.

Can I take shaving gel or foam in my hand luggage?

Yes, you are able to take shaving gel and foam in your hand luggage for a flight. However, as is needed for any liquid, this needs to be in small containers of less than 100ml and placed in a clear 1 litre bag. You can usually buy the appropriate containers from your local chemist and then decant your bigger bottles into these smaller containers before travelling. Bear in mind that you can only pack one clear bag within your hand luggage so it’s wise not to travel with too much liquid.

Can I take tweezers in my hand luggage?

FFS Tweezers

Most airports will allow you to take tweezers within your hand luggage but again, we would recommend checking with your airport and airline before travelling. Tweezers are great if you are looking for a more precise finish and are ideal for removing facial hair, ear hair or nasal hair.

Always check with the airport and airline provider

As we have already mentioned, if you're still a little concerned or not sure what you can and can’t take in your hand luggage, please check with the airport you are flying from or with your airline. This way, there will be no unnecessary surprises when you get to airport security!
